Course Details:

This course will take place on site or at the Barony. It will be delivered by one of the Barony's qualified forestry instructors and provides the knowledge and skill requirements for candidates to be assessed for NPTC Certificate of Competence CS39 Use of chainsaw from a rope and harness

Course Content:

This unit covers the use of the chainsaw in the tree to carry out various cutting methods through safe work position techniques.  Topics include:

  • PPE
  • Prepare chainsaw for use
  • Cold/Hot starting techniques
  • Sending saw aloft
  • General saw handling
  • Use of chainsaw from rope and harness to remove medium sized lateral branches
  • Use of slings
  • How to free a trapped saw
  • Basic Target pruning

Assessment: NPTC assessments take place on a separate day, usually a couple of weeks after training, depending on assessor availability. Successful candidates will be awarded NPTC Certificate of Competence in Use of chainsaw from a rope and harness (CS39)

Course Fee:  £480.00 per person

Please note this includes 2 days training, assessment and registration with NPTC.  There is no VAT on our training.

Course Duration: 2 days (plus 1 day for assessment)

Entry Requirements:

To complete this training candidates are required to hold their NPTC units CS30 and CS31 for Chainsaw Maintenance, Crosscutting and Felling Small Trees plus their CS38 – Climb Trees and Perform Aerial Rescue.

Additional Information:

Equipment: Rope, harness, karabiners and helmet with chin strap required. Climbing equipment to be used on course must have appropriate LOLER certificate. Equipment can be provided for course if required.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
