Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue Operations (CS38)

Qualification: NPTC Certificate of Competence in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue (CS38)

Course Details:

This five day course takes place on-site and covers tree climbing and aerial rescue operations (CS38). It will be delivered by one of Barony's qualified forestry instructors and leads to assessment in NPTC certificate of Competence in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue.

Course content:

  • Identify potential hazards and risks
  • Understand requirements of risk assessments
  • Climbing equipment
  • Tree identification
  • Identify and inspect equipment as to LOLER regulations
  • Carry out a plan of operation
  • Gain access into tree using various techniques
  • Ascend and descend a tree using rope and harness
  • Emergency procedures
  • Rescue a casualty with damaged or undamaged rope and three person team technique
  • Identify key procedural points when dealing with a casualty
  • Retrieve, check and store rope and equipment

Certification:

Assessment will take place on two separate days for each unit, usually about two weeks after the course takes place, depending on assessor availability and candidate ability.  Successful candidates will be awarded the NPTC Certificate of Competence in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue Techniques (CS38).

Course Fee:  £850.00 per person

Please note this includes 5 days training, assessment and registration with NPTC.  There is no VAT on our training.

Course Duration:  5 days (plus 1 day for assessment)

Entry Requirements:

To complete this training candidates are required to hold their NPTC units CS30 and CS31 for Chainsaw Maintenance, Crosscutting and Felling Small Trees.

Additional Information:

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

PPE and Chainsaws are available for hire for a small charge for the duration of your training.  For further details on the appropriate PPE for our Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue Operations (NPTC CS38),  please contact the Short Course Coordinator (details above).
