Animal Transportation Assessment
This assessment allows candidates to apply for a Certificate of Competence required for people involved in the movement ofanimals over 65km (40 miles) and less than 8 hours long.
The Certificate will be endorsed against one or more categories (Sheep, Cattle, Pigs, Horses, Goats etc) if successful, and meet the EU Regulation and Welfare of Animals (Transport) (Scotland) Order 2006.
You should be able to know and understand:
• Legal requirements and responsibilities
• Responsibilities when transporting animals
• Planning a short journey by road
• Suitability of the vehicle
• Checking animals and fitness to travel
• Causes and signs of stress in animals
• Space allowance, stocking densities and segregation requirements
• Handling and animal welfare in transit
Assessment:
The assessment takes place on computer, and you are required to answer 27 multiple choice questions. The minimum satisfactory score to pass is 21 marks to meet the level of competency required.
Certification:
Successful Candidates will receive a Certificate of Competence issued by National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC).
