Who is work experience for?
This service is mainly targeted at S3 pupils who undertake work experience as a part of their normal school activities. It is sometimes possible for something to be arranged if you are not in this age group. It is always worth asking to see.
Barony College has a working farm and fish farm. These activities are commercial and sell produce on the open market. They form a major part of our teaching and training facilities and we are pleased to make them available for young people for their work experience.
We also have other facilities which although not commercial provide a realistic experience of work. These include the walled garden and greenhouse, the college estate, the small animal and aquatics unit, engineering workshops, and managed woodlands.
When and how is work experience provided?
This can work in one of two ways depending on the demand from schools.
- Working on the college estate
In this case you will integrate with the college staff and work alongside them as they go about their day to day duties. This works well for low numbers.
- A work experience programme
When demand is strong in an area we offer a week of activities which are designed to provide you a flavour of the job. This means you will be working in a larger group under the guidance of an instructor or supervisor.
