Delivery of the Project
The majority of the delivery will take place within the Secondary schools but will be heavily supported by work book materials developed by Barony College and through the use of a dedicated Virtual Learning Environment.
The delivery will also critically include fish or shellfish farm site visits where students will be able to participate in or observe selected practical tasks and operations.
It is envisaged that a minimum of four site visits will be organised through the course. The ACCESS Project Manager will liase with participating schools and fish farms to co-ordinate and facilitate visits.
To facilitate the delivery process an Aquaculture Learning Support Team will be established for each school and will include representatives from the school, Barony College and the selected fish farm. This will ensure that fish farms are aware of student numbers, the level of their knowledge and the specific purpose of their visits to the facility. Each member of the ALST will be issued with guidance and support packs reflecting the students learning and assessment materials.
The detailed delivery mode employed by schools will vary depending on particular circumstances; however, it is envisaged that approximately four hours per week of study or contact time will be involved,
The majority of assessment will take place at the schools, supported by assessment support packs generated by Barony College.
Students will also be required to gather information during fish farm and other site visits which will form part of their assessment portfolios. Some practical assessment may take place on fish farms or in the classroom.
