Horticulture

The College is situated in an area renowned for its gardens and specialist plant nurseries and visits to these are integral parts of our courses. Horticulture includes the growing and selling of food crops and ornamental plants, garden design and landscaping. Specifically, amenity horticulture is the propagation and husbandry of decorative plant species cultivated for gardens and public amenity areas. The horticultural industry has become one of the largest employers in the UK, with the gardening public spending millions of pounds on plants and other gardening products each year.

Your knowledge and understanding will be developed alongside practical skills on the Barony estate, with its walled garden, glasshouses, polythene tunnels, nursery stock beds and the wider campus grounds. A horticulture qualification from Barony

College has opened doors for many students to develop wide ranging and interesting careers from becoming skilled nursery persons, growers, gardeners and landscapers. Entrepreneurial students have created successful horticultural businesses.
