This full-time course has been developed in consultation with the RCVS. The course consists of practical work-placements within approved veterinary practices, combined with blocks in College.
During the HNC year, you will be in college for 18 weeks and out in practice for 29 weeks.
Topics you will cover include:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Essential Nursing Skills
- Client Relations
- Information Technology
- Pharmacology
- Practice Operations
- Infection Control
In addition to the above you will also be scheduled to undertake practical theatre duties in our purpose built operating suite and you will have an opportunity to work with our wide range of small animals and reptiles in the Animal Care unit.
Entry Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 Standard Grades/GCSE passes at 3/C or above, including English, Maths and a minimum of one science subject
- ABC 2 Certificate - Animal Nursing Assistant with suitable qualifications in core key skills such as numeracy and communication
- In addition to the minimum requirements, HN students must gain three C passes at Higher
- Two C passes at A level, preferably in English, Maths or a science subject and a minimum of two weeks work experience in a veterinary practice
