Course Details:
The Arboriculture course is aimed at students who wish to work in the aboricultural and utility industries (electricity, rail and road) or who wish to study further at university level. Urban forestry and aerial tree work form a large part of the course. Some of the topics are:
• Identification, Planting and Care of Trees
• Practical Tree Climbing
• Principles of Tree Science
• Tree Survey and Inspection
Entry Requirements:
Satisfactory completion of the first year programme
For mature applicants, considerable work experience in forestry / horticulture / agriculture or engineering and / or education at further or higher education levels
All applicants will have a genuine interest in the subject
STUDENT CASE STUDY
Finlay Miller from Dumfries left school and began working for his dad at John Miller Transport in Dumfries. Being in the outdoors appealed to Finlay, so after a discussion with his dad, he decided to attend Barony College on the National Certificate in Forestry.
Finlay found the knowledge he gained on the NC course was very useful, and the practical work he undertook at Barony helped him greatly in preparing for working life.
After completion of the course, Finlay secured employment at Protree, one of the largest tree contractors in Britain. He has also decided to continue his studies at Barony on the work-based SVQ2 in Arboriculture.
