Course Details:

Level 2 Diploma in Countryside and Environment (Level 2 Forestry)

Our first year course provides you with an excellent overview of forestry, using hand-tools, mechanised power tools (chainsaws and brush-cutters) and equipment (tractors). These practical skills are enhanced through theory so you develop a sound understanding of the principles of forestry through a range of activities from tree seed to sawmill. Some of the topics are:

• Land-based Machinery Operations
• Work Experience
• Environmental and Land-based Business
• Estate Maintenance

 Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture (Level 2 Forestry)

The second part of the first year course is more forestry focused and you will have the opportunity to do some climbing and machine operations to help you make an informed decision on your choice of specialism. Some of the topics are:

• Principles of Plant and Soil Science
• Tree Felling and Chainsaw Use
• Tree Planting, Aftercare and Protection
• Forest and Woodland Skills

Entry Requirements:

For recent school leavers at least three Standard Grade passes at level 3 or above (preferably in English, Maths and a Science) or equivalents

For mature applicants, work experience in forestry / horticulture / agriculture or engineering and / or education at further or higher education levels

All applicants will need to demonstrate an interest in the subject.
