SVQ 2 Fisheries Management
Course Details:
This is a work-based training programme, offering you practical training in sport fisheries management operations. Although no previous experience is required to complete the SVQ, you do need to be employed on a fishery. To be eligible for a Scottish Enterprise contract to subsidise your training, you need to be under 20 years of age.
The course covers a wide range of subjects including:
- Fish Capture and Population Surveying
- Habitat Assessment and Maintenance
- Freshwater Ecology
- Sport Fish Species
- Management and Control of Anglers.
Entry Requirements:
- Three Standard Grade passes, including a science, is an advantage, but not mandatory. Your personal motivation and the reference from your employer are taken into account.
STUDENT CASE STUDY
Rafat Al-tamimi was an international student who came over to Scotland from the Yemen to study HNC Fish Farming in 2009/10.
He chose Barony to gain some practical experience as well as using it as a platform to progress into year two of BSc Honours in Aquaculture at the University of Stirling.
Rafat said:
