Course Details:
This is a 24 week college based course designed to provide those interested in entering the aquaculture or sport fisheries sectors with practical training, together with the appropriate knowledge. Successful completion allows candidates to ‘fast track’ the Modern Apprenticeship in Aquaculture, once in employment. The emphasis is on the development of the skills and attitudes that employers look for, to ensure that candidates are employable when they leave us.
The main areas covered by the course are:
- Fish Biology
- Fish Farm and Fishery Maintenance Skills
- Fish Husbandry
- Information Technology
- Sport Fishery Operations
- Employability
This course incorporates the National Progression Award in Fish Husbandry and Fish Feeding, Nutrition and Health.
Entry Requirements:
- At least 3 Standard Grade passes at level 3 or above (preferably in English, Maths and a Science) or equivalents.
- Experience and motivation is also taken into account.
