Course Details:
This 31 week full-time course provides the first step on the ladder of professional qualifications within the industry and incorporates the British Horse Owners Certificate. You will spend a lot of time covering the practical skills required to work safely and competently with horses, providing the base for you to progress smoothly to a higher level of qualification.

- Feeding and Watering
- Elementary Riding
- Horse Health
- Saddlery and Clothing
- Nutrition
- Safe Horse Handling
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Lungeing
This course will fully prepare you for the BHS Horse Care and Riding Stage 1 and 2 examinations.
Entry Requirements:

3 Standard Grades at level 3 or above

Ability to control a horse at all paces and a basic knowledge of horse care

A genuine commitment to the well being of the horse is essential.
STUDENT CASE STUDY
Lucy Meek wanted to extend her knowledge and riding skills so decided to study Equine for two years at Barony. She chose Barony as her place of study as she liked the look of the courses and the wide variety of units that were covered.
Lucy said:
“The Equine course was really good and opened my eyes to the teaching side. I didn’t think at the time that I would be at all interested in that side of the industry but I now teach full time in my job and I am really enjoying it. The course helped me get my current job as I gained a lot more confidence working with other people and with horses. It also encouraged me to sit my BHS examinations, and since I have left I have continued with the examinations and gained the UKCC level 2”.
Lucy is now working as a Riding Instructor at Chapelton Equestrian Centre. Her job involves teaching all ages and experiences, and she is an instructor for Riding for the Disabled. She also schools liveries horses.
