Animal Care

Barony College has an excellent reputation for delivering Animal Care training and education. Our Animal Care Training Centre puts us in the premier league of providers. This specialist facility provides housing and working areas for companion pets including dogs, birds, many different types of small animals, reptiles and ornamental fish.  Both college-based and distance-learning courses are well established and our flexible learning programmes have been successfully delivered to candidates for many years.

Over 60,000 people in the UK are currently in employment involving the care of animals. The ability to care for animals is a skill required in a wide range of organisations and nationally recognised qualifications are now required by the majority of employers.

There are numerous opportunities for people with animal care qualifications. Boarding kennels and catteries are widespread throughout the UK and provide openings for kennel assistants up to managerial level. Many charity organisations have veterinary hospitals and welfare centres that employ inspectors, ambulance drivers and other staff dedicated to the caring and rescue of animals. Local authorities, parks, zoos and the armed forces all require trained animal care staff.
