Course Details:
This course is a work-based programme which reinforces production and management skills to meet industry requirements. The topics covered are studied at a more advanced level and are supported by day or block release training at the college, typically over one year.
Topics covered include:
- Livestock and Grassland Production Systems
- Animal Health and Welfare
- Farm Records and Performance
In addition, other industry training and certification in specialised subjects such as Pesticide Application, Use of the Farm Handler, Emergency First Aid, Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines, Cattle Foot Trimming, ATV Quad Bike Operation and Animal Transportation may be required to achieve the award.
There are opportunities for those who successfully complete the course to remain in employment or to progress onto a full-time HNC Agriculture course.
Entry Requirements:
- A genuine interest and motivation to work in the agriculture industry is essential
- A satisfactory standard of literacy and numeracy is needed
- Successful completion of SVQ 2 Agriculture or National Certificate or equivalent qualifications
- Farm based employment
