Course Type: Full Time Course
Course Details:
The main aim of this full-time one year course is to develop practical skills and knowledge associated with animal and crop husbandry. The course introduces agricultural production principles and systems in the classroom, with the main emphasis on practical application and personal development on the college farm and estate.
A range of topics is covered during the course including:
- Livestock Husbandry and Production Systems
- Crop and Grassland Husbandry and Production
- Farm Machinery Maintenance and Operation
- Farm Workshop and Estate Skills
- Farm Computing and Record Keeping
As part of the learning experience at Barony you will undertake farm duties on a rota basis. Work-placement and field trips will also provide you with opportunities to view and discuss current agricultural practice, developments and challenges.
Successful learners may progress onto an SVQ 2 or SVQ3/Modern Apprenticeship Agriculture programme or HNC Agriculture course.
Entry Requirements:
- A genuine interest and motivation in agriculture
- Three Standard Grades, or equivalents, ideally in English,
Maths and a Science subject - Evidence of agricultural work experience is desirable
