Marketing Award
Marketing award for Barony College
Barony College has won a Silver Award for Innovation at the prestigious final awards ceremony of the Scotland’s Colleges Marketing Awards and Annual Conference 2010 held in Stirling recently.
The award was in recognition of the Rural Retraining course introduced by Barony last year in response to the recession and local job losses. The intensive fast track course taking place over 20 weeks helped a number of people find employment in land based industries and encouraged others to set up their own businesses. The Silver Award was presented to Marketing Officer Shona Warwick for marketing activity to support the launch of the course, which resulted in the course being fully subscribed within two weeks.
Shona Warwick said:
“The extraordinarily tight timescales involved in the launch of this course presented some unique challenges, and our local media were absolutely vital in helping us to spread the word about this brand new course. The course going ahead was dependant on getting at least half our places filled, so filling every place within two weeks was remarkable. Rural Retraining was the right course to meet a specific local need last year and to be given recognition for the supporting marketing amongst such tough competition was very exciting.”
Scotland’s Colleges Marketing Awards attract over 70 applications from colleges across the country. Jim Leishman, MBE, Director of Football at Dunfermline Athletic Football Club spoke at the event and presented the winning colleges with their awards.
Russell Marchant, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Barony College said:
“Shona pulled out all the stops in supporting the launch of Rural Retraining last year and I’m delighted that her work, and the work of all the other staff who made it a success, has been recognised at this important awards ceremony.”
